Bangalore once was the proud holder of the soubriquet Garden City of India thanks to its large parks and wide open spaces.
Today however, it wears a new crown as the IT Capital of India. Don't be surprised if your sightseeing includes construction work because Bangalore is India's most developed city and is one of fastest growing urban areas in the world.
Visiting Bangalore is less taxing than other places in India because the climate is relatively mild all year round although summer temperatures do reach 36°. Just because Bangalore is a busy, industrious city doesn't mean there aren't sights a plenty.
Unlike so many large Indian cities its Raj heritage is fairly minimal as nearby Mysore was of more interest to the British right up until the early 1830s. The result is that the major sites of interest are native rather than colonial; The amazing styling of Vidhana Soudha, the granite Legislative House if the State of Kamataka built in the Dravidian style; the neighbouring modern marvel Vikasa Soudha; Bangalore Palace with a collection of nude paintings; and the mostly wooden Tipu Sultan's Palace.
Naturally, there are plenty of temples and many feature some really huge statues; the Shiva Temple, the Gavi Gangadeshwara Cave Temple, Maruthi Mandir and the Mukti Naga Temple. Once you've had your fill of temples, and some really are truly magnificent and fascinating, enjoy one of the city's many parks but be warned, some of them are, too, attached to temples. If you want to escape just a bit further and you're a soul brave enough to get behind the wheel of a hire car, Omthara Kala Kuteera is 25 miles from Bangalore and is a real oasis and haven of peace. Visitors describe it as Heaven on Earth. Bangalore itself may not be paradise but it sure is interesting.
