Car Hire Dun Laoghaire

Be sure to hire a car and roam the lovely Irish hillside. Dún Laoghaire is known to Ireland, as the "Irish Riviera". Due to the sparkling Harbor water, populated with sailboats and yachts, it is sure to tickle your fancy. It's a town surrounded by lush, green rolling hills and much history. The name has changed several times. It was renamed by Vikings from Scandinavia and King George of England before Ireland was able to claim back what was rightfully theirs in 1921. They gained their Independence back from Britain and gave Dún Laoghaire back its original name. Patrick Moran had a great deal to do with this, so they named Moran Park after him and his great influence. There is much Heritage to be discovered here. Take hike through Killiney.

It is amazingly gorgeous, from the beach view, to the view from the tops hills. Or for a more knowledgeable view on the area and its history, go ask Alice. Alice Cullen is the best walking tour guide around. She is a member of the Dún Laoghaire historical society. Her walks are through Dalkey and Killiney. Every Sunday a different itinerary is scheduled, but I guarantee you will enjoy it very much. Be sure to see the James Joyce Tower during your stay. Nestled in Sandycove, Dublin, it is a Martello Fort built to protect all from Napoleon's invasions. In 1904 James Joyce spent six nights there. The museum holds many of Joyce's effects, photographs, and 1st editions of his novels. The fort is set up as Joyce describes it in his novel, "Ulysses". Plan an extended holiday when you decide to come to Dún Laoghaire, for there is far too much to see and so little time.
